Buried in the Biden administration’s infrastructure bill are new cryptocurrency tax law changes. The new provisions would treat cryptocurrencies completely differently than they have been in the past.

Currently, the IRS treats crypto as property. But under a provision of the infrastructure bill, cryptocurrency would be treated both as property and as a security. This may not seem like much, but the change would have a significant impact.
